Chiropractic Therapy for Children

Chiropractic therapy specializes in musculoskeletal performance and how spinal misalignment can interfere with the nervous system and the body’s ability to heal itself. Your chiropractor uses their hands or other instruments to non-invasively manipulate the problem areas of the spine into working order.

Did you know that chiropractic therapy has many benefits for babies and children?

It is common knowledge that your chiropractor can assist you with back, neck, and head pain. Children can slip, fall, and disrupt spinal alignment just as easily as adults. But sometimes adults misinterpret a child’s discomfort, attributing it to sleeping in a strange position, or growing pains. Pain is not a normal condition, and a fully functioning nervous system is key to the developing human body.

Aside from the most popular chiropractic adjustments for back and neck pain, your chiropractor is capable of helping your body overcome a great number of physical ailments including ear infections, bed wetting, trouble sleeping, and even posture – common childhood complaints.

Let’s look specifically at ear infections. When there is a buildup of fluids in the ear – often caused by swelling in the glands around the ear as a result of a cold – the bacteria that has accumulated in the ear can’t be flushed out, so it festers into an infection. Your chiropractor can gently manipulate the muscles and bones around the ear to open the ear’s drainage system and allow the body’s immune system heal the infection naturally.

There is no age restriction for chiropractic care. Babies can benefit from adjustments for gas and digestive problems, poor sleeping habits, and mobility issues – all relating to posture and spinal alignment, some of which may be attributed to traumatic delivery.

Pre-natal and post-natal chiropractic care for mom is also available. When you are pregnant your body changes rapidly: you gain weight especially in your front which changes how you balance, walk, bend over to pick something up, stand, and sleep. This strains your back and causes pain. Additionally the weight of the baby can put pressure on your sacroiliac joint, causing even more pain and discomfort. Chiropractic care can make gentle adjustments to alleviate the pressure and help you maintain healthy posture, strength and core fitness to keep you comfortable and ready to take on the next physical challenge; picking up, holding, feeding, and carrying your baby. Post-natal chiropractic adjustments can help regain strength as your body heals and adapts post-pregnancy to both your body’s changes and the new physical demands of motherhood.

Chiropractic adjustments for infants and children uses a very gentle touch – far more so than the force used on adults. Your chiropractor can demonstrate on you just how gentle their touch is.
