Laser Therapy

Overview

Practitioners
Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT)

LILT is a non-toxic, pain-free, light-based therapy that is highly effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, sports injuries and dermatological conditions. Unlike high intensity medical lasers, low intensity lasers do not damage tissue. Instead, low intensity laser therapy initiates the body’s own healing process. The technology used in this process includes superluminous arrays and laser diodes (specialized LED lights) that target injured tissue with red and infrared light. Particles of light energy (photons) are absorbed by a variety of cellular molecules that convert light energy into biochemical energy. This physiological reaction leads to the restoration of normal cell structure and function. The low intensity laser system carefully selected for our clinic is the Bioflex LILT System; developed at Meditech in Toronto. The Bioflex systems have been successfully and safely used for 20 years and are now present in over 37 countries. The Bioflex LILT system has a unique patent that separates the red and infrared light. In addition, the arrays have been carefully designed to make direct contact with the skin to ensure that an optimal amount of light is absorbed vs. reflected from the skin. The Bioflex units have been approved by Health Canada and have been FDA cleared.

Medical Applications Include:

Ligament/tendon/muscle tears
Fractures
Inflammation (tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, arthritis)
Back Problems (osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, disc herniation, sciatica)
Lymphedema
Gout
Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction
Dermatological Conditions treated with a combination of diet, acupuncture and LILT (eczema, psoriasis, acne)
The duration of each treatment is typically 45-60 minutes. The number of treatments will depend upon the extent of the pathology, the healing capacity of the client, age and acute vs. chronic states. The average number of treatments is 9.5.

To further enhance the healing process, Wilson Health Services offers acupuncture with each LILT treatment.
